Brief plot synopsis
Antigone has been sentenced to death for caring to the body of her brother Polynicies after he was killed in his attempt to reclaim the throne of Thebes.
Where did you get them from? E.g. from the internet
This was in a collection of monologues sent and recomended to be by a friend who I am in the same drama society group outside of school.
Why did you considered the piece?
The text is very old fashioned which is a type of language that I havent experimented with yet in BTEC performing arts.
How does it show your strengths as a performer?
In this piece every word and sentance has a significant meaning which will be shown with subtle changes in the face and voice.
Were there any draw backs from choosing this piece?
The old english style of text will be a great deal harder to remember than any modern or contempory pieces. Propper and full pronouciation of the text is also really important to make the words and there meaning. It is also very long which will mae it even harder to remember and take my focus away from the performance.
Could you find a solution to the issue
The first two are the main challange of the piece but I plan to power through and over come them. The last will be solved by me shortening the monologue to mainly just the key points.
Why did you eventually choose or not choose this audition piece?
I decided not to do this monologue because I would not be comfortable enough in the old style language to purely focus on the actual performance of it.
What would be the contrast between this piece and others you have chosen?
Any monolgue in modern english language would contrast to this piece and also if they had an accent as the diction of this would be very clear.
